Main, panel builder or retail: which Legrand list
Legrand prices its Indian range in more than one list, and they are not interchangeable.
- The main price list. The general list for Legrand's range in India, revised more than once in a year — this page keeps several editions of it, newest first. For most project and site purchases, it is the reference.
- The panel builder list. The list Legrand prices for panel builders, who buy breakers and distribution products in volume and in combinations. A device in it can carry a different figure from the same device in the main list.
- The retail list. The list for the range sold over retail counters, where switches, sockets and small protective devices move in single units.
Whichever applies to you, compare quotations built on the same list and the same edition. A seller quoting from the panel builder list and another quoting from the main list are not offering the same price basis, even on the same catalogue number.
What the Legrand main list covers
Legrand's Indian range runs from wiring devices — switches, sockets and their plates — through final distribution, with miniature and residual current breakers and distribution boards, to power distribution for panels. Families such as DX3 for modular protection, DPX3 for moulded case breakers and DMX3 for air circuit breakers are the quickest way into the right section of the PDF.
Wiring devices are priced part by part. A switch, its frame and its cover plate are usually separate lines, so price the assembly, not just the switch, when you compare two quotations for a building.
How to find a line by its catalogue number
Every line in a Legrand list carries a catalogue number, and it is the reference to search for and to quote.
- Find the family from the contents pages, or search the PDF for the catalogue number if you already have it.
- For protective devices, narrow by poles, rated current, curve and breaking capacity; for wiring devices, by module size, rating and finish.
- Copy the catalogue number exactly when you ask for a quotation; descriptions repeat across ranges and finishes, catalogue numbers do not.
- Add the accessories, plates and frames as their own lines.
If a catalogue number from an older drawing is missing from the current list, the range may have moved on. Confirm the current equivalent by its ratings rather than by its name. Our post on the most common switchgear ordering errors covers the details that most often turn a near match into a wrong order.
List price, discount and GST on Legrand orders
Read the terms page of the list you are using first: it states whether prices are before tax or inclusive of it, which decides whether GST is added on top of a seller's net rate. Sellers then quote Legrand as a discount off the list, and the discount varies with the list, the product family and the quantity.
Compare the landed rate per catalogue number — net rate, freight and payment terms — rather than the discount column, and check that every quotation names the edition it is built on. Our guide to reading a switchgear quotation works through a full comparison, and our post on switchgear price increases explains what happens to quotations when a new edition takes effect.
Buying genuine Legrand products
Wiring devices and miniature breakers from well-known brands are among the products counterfeiters copy most readily, because they are bought in quantity and fitted without a genuine unit to compare against. Buy through Legrand's authorised channel, and check what arrives against our guide to verifying genuine switchgear. For comparisons across makes, the Hager and Schneider Electric price lists are on this site too.
